Two more games this weekend for the Novice Ice Devils

Friday night’s game was a nail biter against the Parry Sound Shamrocks.

The first period was pretty competitive and even keel, without too many scoring chances in either zone. With .35 seconds left in the first, the Shamrocks scored the first goal of the game.

The Ice Devils fought hard in the second period to hold off their opponents. Eloise Worrell made some great saves, which was essential for the team to stay in the game. The defensive work from Christopher Chatelain was intense and he managed to get the puck up the ice to the neutral zone and into the offensive zone.

After a penalty on each side and a goal from Parry Sound late in the second, the Ice Devils had some work to do, heading into the third. Down by two, Almaguin hit the ice and fought for their lives in the third period. At the eight minute mark, Owen Prentice scored a beauty breakaway goal and put the wind in the Devils’ sails to get them back in the game. Parry Sound took a penalty late in the period and the Ice Devils had some great shots on net and the players were close by to try for the rebounds. With 25.4 seconds left in the third, Maxime Major Fleming scored a rebound shot, with Aiden Cremer assisting. Coach Doug called a last minute time out with 25 seconds left in the game to give the boys a chance to recharge. It payed off! Aiden scored the third goal, assisted by Cole Farquhar with .4 seconds to spare in order to tie the game! The crowd went wild! What an exciting game! Great effort kids!

Saturday, the Ice Devils went up against the Essa Eagles. Almaguin went out hard in the first period and Maxime Major Fleming scored the first goal of the game with Nathan Hill assisting. The Eagles fought back hard and got a couple goals.

The defence was strong all through the second period and the offence worked hard to get some great shots on net. Mason Croxon McNay poked the puck out of the zone every chance he got, to get the play back into offensive play.

Aiden Cremer scored the second goal, during a power play, assisted by Eric Vincer. As the team continued to fight hard, Max Durand cleared the puck out of the defensive zone and up to the forward waiting in the neutral zone for another chance at the net.

The team pulled together, looked for open ice and got some scoring chances, late in the second and into the third, but they were unable to tie it up. They went into the third period behind by 2.

Almaguin took advantage of the offside calls against the Eagles and dominated the face offs with some more great attempts on net. At the seven minute mark Cole Farquhar found the back of the net and Aiden Cremer was there for the assist. In the end, Almaguin wasn’t able to pull out the win, but Saturday’s game was the most aggressive, yet! Keep up the good work Ice Devils!
