Coldwater Tournament Jan 28
The Novice team headed south last
Saturday to take part in their first tournament of the season, The
Coldwater Classic. The boys had us on the edge of our seats as they
faced off against East Gwillimbury for their first game of the day.
We took an early lead with the only goal scored in the first period.
At the end of the 2nd,
East Gwillimbury had pulled ahead 2 to 1. In the first minute of the
third, our opponents scored again leaving us trailing by 2. Our
determine team stayed focused and was able to even things up, ending
in a tie game of 3 to 3.
Next we hit the ice against Midland and it was another nail bitter. At the end of the first period we were down 2 to 0 but the boys did not get discouraged and work hard in the 2nd to tie up the game. It looked like it might be another tie for the Novice Ice Devils when, with only 1:30 left on the clock in the third, we pulled ahead with a goal. This win against Midland advanced the Ice Devils into the Division B final. In the final we were up against Wasaga Beach and it was just as exciting as the first 2 games. Wasaga Beach was a worthy opponent and by the end of the 2nd period they were ahead 2 to 0. We were able to get on the board during the third but didn’t have enough time to catch them, leaving a final score of 2 to 1. Our Novice team worked hard utilizing the skills they’ve been learning all season and represented Almaguin well with their effort. Great job team! The Novice team is back on home turf February 4 hosting Huntsville’s HRC at 10:00 in Burks Falls. Connie McCaig
