Emotional end
As will happen in Midget hockey, the final few games of the season brought with them some emotions as many players competed for the final times of their minor hockey careers.

With those emotions riding high, Almaguin opened their Championship Weekend on Saturday morning in Bracebridge against league power house Parry Sound 2.  The score did not indicate the game as Almaguin were in it from the start and had their chances, but penalty troubles (36 minutes in all) and lack of finish doomed the Ice Devils as they dropped the game by a 3-0 score.

Looking to rebound, the Midgets faced off against a vastly improved Huntsville Cottage Country Towing team in game two, but unlike past meetings, this game would belong to Huntsville as they skated away with a relatively easy 4-1 win. The only goal of the game for Almaguin came courtesy of Dennis Luckasavitch with just 1:39 left in the game.

Following the tournament “re-seeding”, Sunday morning brought a rematch with Cottage Country Towing as the Ice Devils laced them up for the final time, looking to play spoiler.  Luckasavitch was again the only Ice Devil scorer as Huntsville had Almaguin’s number again, winning by a 5-1 count to advance themselves to the MPSLL Midget Final.

Congratulations to Parry Sound 2 on their much deserved Midget Cup win and a big thank you to all of our players, parents, volunteers and team staff on helping make 2016-17 so great.  This season’s bench staff included; Head Coach Clint Carleton, Assistant Coaches Craig Young, Darren Luckasavitch, Jim Ronholm and Darwin Dunn, Trainer Larry Ardiel and Team Manager Becki Carleton.  Thank you.

I would like to personally wish all of our graduating Midget players; Aidan Carleton, Noah Haggart, Riley Dunn, Liam Zurbrigg-Tutt, Sabastian Patterson, Emma Story, Jeremiah Ardiel, Ryan Newberry and Leona Lee ALL the best in whatever lies ahead. Thank you for making me feel young again for a couple hours a week!  Keep smiling and KEEP PLAYING HOCKEY. - Clint.
