Tough Start...
The opening of the 2017-18 MPS Local League season saw the Bantam LL Ice Devils drop a narrow 2-1 decision at home to Huntsville Heather Douglas before taking one squarely on the chin with a 7-0 loss in Haliburton.

During Saturday’s season opener at home in South River to Heather Douglas, Almaguin came out with lots of energy and effort and probably deserved a better fate.  Both goalies looked in mid-season form as the game lasted until early in the 3rd period before anyone found the back of the net, as Huntsville jumped on a loose puck and barely snuck one past Almaguin keeper Daria Sollman to give themselves a 1-0 lead. The advantage would be short-lived however as Almaguin defenceman Cliff Loucks (unassisted) found the back of the Huntsville cage with a short-handed slap shot to tie things up at one. Unfortunately, just 29 seconds later the visitors were able to capitalize on and Ice Devils miscue and pop home the winner, walking away with the victory.

On Sunday the team hit the road, making the first of two long treks to Haliburton for a tilt with Highland Storm Total Site Service.  Perhaps “Jet Lagged” from the long car ride and despite another solid first period, the Ice Devils were never quite able to get things going, dropping a 7-0 decision and ending opening weekend oh and two.

Despite the losses, expectations and morale remain high as the Bantams now begin a mini two game “home stand” next Saturday vs Highland Storm 2.  Game time is 1:50 PM at SSJ Arena in Sundridge.
