Nothing beats a team effort and that was certainly true this past Saturday in the first win of the year!
Following an 0-2 opening weekend, the Almaguin Bantam LL Ice Devils returned to home ice on Saturday October 21st, hosting Highland Storm at SSJ arena in Sundridge.
The visitors jumped out to an early lead just 2:07 into the game and added a second midway through the frame before Almaguin woke up. But wake up they did, getting the offence going with three goals in the final four minutes of the opening period. The first of Almaguin's three first period goals came courtesy of newcomer Sylis Whittaker with a powerful point shot from the blue line. With no let up, Devils winger Andrew Hill then snapped home a Braedan Holotuk pass to tie the game at 2-2, before Griffin Martens beat Storm goalie Maria O'Malley with the eventual game winner.
With some strong forechecking and solid defense, Almaguin would shut the door, giving up just a handful of shots the rest of the way while Holotuk added an insurance marker in the 3rd to cement the win.
Assists on the day went to Elizabeth Hancocks with two, Griffin Martens, Breadan Holotuk, Cliff Loucks, Max Boyes and Andrew Hill.
