First Tournament is a learning experience
The Almaguin Novice Ice Devils attended their first tournament of the season in Parry Sound. Nerves were high, but all come away with a good learning experience.

The Almaguin Novice Ice Devils attended their first tournament of the season in Parry Sound. Nerves were high in their first game against the Midland Centennials and Almaguin was unable to pull out the win. Despite the end result Emilia Jarvis and Quintan McFarlane hustled on defense and got in front of the puck and deep in to the corners to help get it out of the defensive zone. Cole Farquhar never stopped skating for a moment, and was an asset to the offensive play. Owen Prentice hustled for two breakaway goals.

Almaguin showed up to battle the Kincardin Kinucks on Saturday morning and never stopped working. The score was 2-1 after the second with Eloise Worrell robbing the offence with a buzzer beating glove save.  Almaguin’s intensity was high from beginning to end and the teamwork really started to show through. Despite the strong effort, the team was unable to pull off a win. Eloise was peppered with all kinds of shots and showed off her skills in the net, while Owen Prentice started the scoring with the first goal of the game, assisted by Eric Vincer. Owen doubled up the score with a second period goal while Aiden Cremer broke away from the pack to score a nice goal in the third to finish up the game.

Sunday’s game was against the Hanover Falcons. Again, the Ice Devils came out fighting and despite a strong offensive display from the Falcons, Almaguin never backed down.  The lone Almaguin goal came near the end of the game with Eric Vincer netting one top shelf after receiving a breakaway pass from Owen Prentice.

It was evident in the stands that this group of skaters were determined. The team dynamics are beginning to evolve for these young skaters.  Their dedication to one another was evident and continued to grow even throughout the weekend. They never gave up, supported each other, and their character and spirit shined through, on and off the ice.  They represented Almaguin well.  We are proud of you, Ice Devils! Good luck next weekend!

Next up:  Back-to-back games with the South Muskoka Bears.
