Strong Finish!
The Peewee LL Ice Devils kicked off the home stretch on Family Day weekend with 3 games at the 2016-17 Canadian Tire Festival in Orillia Ontario.

Sunday’s opening game saw the team take on a very skilled (and very big) Goderich Sailors team and the Sailors “cruised” to an easy 4-1 win.  Almaguin’s only goal of the opener came courtesy of Dale Hunter.  Monday morning brought new hope as the Peewee’s hit the ice early for an 8 AM game against a fast Bradford Bulldogs squad.  Unfortunately the game was all Bulldogs as they handed Almaguin a lopsided 6-0 loss. For their final game of the weekend, the Devils took on Lincoln Front Row Sports and finally came to play!  Lincoln would open the scoring in the late stages of the first, but Almaguin defenceman Cliff Loucks fed Dale Hunter for the tying goal not even a minute later to tie the game 1-1.  The contest would remain deadlocked until the final shot of a shootout as Lincoln’s Jax Arcuri sunk the Ice Devils as he slipped one past goaltender Josh dePeuter.  A fun time was had by all and the players worked hard all weekend against some very stiff competition.

Saturday February 25th brought a return to league play as the Peewee’s headed to Huntsville for their final regular season game.  Almaguin came out strong as Brayden Moore, in the first period and Hayden Snow (twice) and Dylan Watt, in the second period all found the back of the net for the visitors.

The win sees Almaguin clinch 2nd place in the Peewee Division and sets up dates with Huntsville Main Street Dental (12:00 pm Saturday), Huntsville Heather Douglas (5:00 pm Saturday) and South Muskoka Giant Tiger (9:00 am Sunday) during this coming Saturday and Sunday’s MPSLL Championship Weekend. All Peewee games will be played at the Bobby Orr Community Centre in Parry Sound.
